Black Girl Mental Health Resources

Need Support?

Here are some resources to help and learn more.

The Loveland Foundation

The Loveland Foundation was founded on the belief that “Black women and girls deserve access to healing, and that healing will impact generations.” The founder, Rachel Cargle, created this foundation to do exactly that, bring opportunity and healing to communities of color with a specific focus on Black women and girls. This foundation offers fellowship, residency programs, listening tours, and more.

The Boris Lawrence Henson Foundation

The Boris Lawrence Henson Foundation was founded to combat the stigma against mental health in the American Black communities. Through partnering with corporations, this foundation encourages “Black individuals to own their history, heritage, and collective wounds in empowering, empathetic, and transformative ways.” Furthermore, this foundation encourages mental wellness, raises awareness of the stigma when talking about mental illness, provides mental health resources, offers scholarships to Black students seeking a mental health profession, and more.

Cultivating H.E.R. Space: Uplifting Conversations for the Black Woman

This is a podcast designed to be a safe space for Black women. Dr. Dom, a college professor, and psychologist, and Terri Lomax, a techie and motivational speaker, come together every Friday to discuss topics specific to Black women. Each episode fits the Podcast's titles, H.E.R standing for Healing, Empowerment, Resilience.

The Safe Place

The Safe Space is a “minority health app geared towards the Black community.” The purpose of this app is to bring awareness, education, and hope to mental illness. This app features mental health statistics, inspirational black quotes, self-care tips on mental health in the black church, talking to black family members who may not want to understand mental illness, meditation, exercise, and more. This app also offers a forum for open discussion, so you can connect with people who feel or have felt the way you do.

Shine: Calm Anxiety & Stress

This app is designed to create a daily self-care ritual catered to each person. It helps you meditate, connect, and reflect in the best way for each person that signs up. It offers meditation topics and Daily Shine meditation to listen to daily. They offer a membership that offers sleep meditations, more personalization tools, support from the app’s community, and mental health professionals.
