How to Reduce Risk for Stress.

Stress

What is it?

According to Psychology Today, stress is "two things: the psychological perception of pressure, on the one hand, and the body's response to it, on the other. " Specifically, Black women, in particular, are at a higher risk for race-based trauma, given society's history and continuation of racial discrimination. Additionally, this stress can adversely affect efforts to maintain a healthy lifestyle and diet, affecting Black women's chances of acquiring cardiovascular disease.

How can I reduce my risk?

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) suggest that Black women engage in exercise and yoga, spend time with friends, journal, and set boundaries regarding non-priority activities. It is also beneficial to seek help from a mental health professional through an online resource.
